Archive for Thoughts to Ponder

It was a turbulent the way November started for me.  Aside from the  storms that hit the Philippines… I just became a victim of estafa.  One of our suppliers, AP Clemente Printing did not deliver the goods we ordered from them.  So this leads to messing up 25th Sacerdotal of a Priest in my current town.  I just wish this greedy person get struck by a lighting.

So now we need to refund the order of our own client which is the biggest realization of all the losses that is happening.  The take up of sales last October was really bad.  I can’t help but feel depressed to think that this month is supposedly my little daughter’s 7th birthday and likewise my better half’s birthday too.

My personal finances is now messed up as well…i hope i can go through all of these with little of the hurt.

Washed Out

Last week Ondoy struck the Philippines particularly Manila like a thief in the night.  I have not seen the metropolis gets devastated this way.   People were so helpless… even your strength is not enough to keep your things in place.  It did not spared even the rich or the famous.

A lot of my friends were terribly affected.  They lost house, car, clothes and household appliance.  Two weeks ago i felt so washed out with losing the opportunity to go to the US.  But now, after seeing what other people lost in this storm, I felt foolish thinking about the piece of cheese I lost.

Now, another storm is wrecking havoc a bit south of Luzon.  How I wish this is the last for this year.  The economy is not good this year and these catastrophic event is not helping people heal their lives from the difficulties.  People now fear even the slightest rain pour.   Lord, we learned things the hard way, please save our country from further being washed out.

Where is My Cheese?

Few days ago I was still in ‘high’ spirits reminiscing the good time that I had in Seoul of South Korea.  How time flies that the much awaited vacation has just concluded.  Admittedly this is one of the best things that happened to me this year, the other best is supposed to be near but its gone.

I just remember the book Who Moved My Cheese? It was about moving out of your comfort zone.   This post doesn’t have anything to do with that but I instantly made an analogy using it.

I heard the news of possibly going to the US on October for a conference  early this year.  This brought excitement for me this year and I was actually anticipating for it rather inspired by it.  I thought I was so lucky to be able to travel again to South Korea and 1st time in the US in the same year.   Few days before leaving for Seoul I had a feeling that the US travel is too good to be true. And my intuition served me right.

Yesterday I was informed that there is no slot for our team for the US tour.   The slots were all allocated to someone else’s team.   I thought geez those guys took my cheese…but later on I realized my cheese was not stolen.  In fact I don’t have a cheese to begin with.  When I was informed about it the cheese is out there in the open.  It will come and will definitely be given.   Now it came but unfortunately not for me to have but for someone else *sigh*

I was actually anticipating for a the good thing that the cheese may bring.  I am for once  almost sure I will have a portion of the cheese.   I have nothing to blame except my self for believing the cheese will actually be handed over to me.

It Has Been Ages…

This is exactly how I felt writing this entry.  I almost forgot this blog =(  I was riding in a roller coaster for the past months embracing the changes in my daily routine as a result of putting up my small shop — my Vanilla Print.

August was pretty hectic for me.  I got to travel first time with my mom out of the country.  It was few of our bonding experiences.   I am sure my mom enjoyed every single day we spent in Hong Kong.  She was too energetic to walk like an energizer bunny and never complained.

I also started watching a comedy drama, Ms No Good.  It’s a Taiwanese drama starred by Rainie Yang. It’s like watching comics or manga.  I hope i will have time to write a review about it.  I kept on laughing on some scenes including the NGs.

I may be lucky to visit Seoul again this month.  I am so keeping my fingers crossed.   I just love traveling.   It’s September and the weather is good for traveling in most countries.   Another this is, September is when Christmas starts here in the Philippines… i hope it would still be the same despite the economic crises we just experienced.  For all you know Christmas will be just around the corner.  Busy streets and shopping malls — i hope people will have money to spend this Christmas.

How time flies few months from now it will be 2010.  I wish i could stop my age from incrementing…

Looking Back at May

May was a super busy month for me.  My life has never been the same since I opened up my Vanilla Print (my small print shop).  I almost work 7 days a week and had very little quality time with my family.  It’s really very tiring.   This likewise affected my bloggin habit… I almost had little time for my extra curricular activities over the internet.

A lot of events hapenned in May and one of the biggest not just for the month but I guess for the entire entertainment history of my country, is the Hayden Kho Sex Scandal with Katrina Halili and other ladies he got a relationship with.  It was an awful scenario and the sex hungry people are feasting on the said scandal.    I am in no way a fan of Katrina Halili, in fact I don’t like her as an artist because she seems to have this insatiable need to have cosmetic surgery done on her face.   Right after the scandal broke out, I could only emphatize with the sad faith she had with her failed illicit affair with Dr. Hayden Kho (yes he is a doctor who filmed his intimate moments with these beautiful  celebrities).    Even if I am not a fan, I just wish Katrina will be strong enough to face this humiliation.   I fully condemn Dr. Hayden’s act.  This is the worst thing that you can do to a single lady.

The other big news is the sudden death of the South Korean President, Roh Mu Hyun.  Since I am a big admirer of South Korea’s nation and culture,  I am saddened by this event.   What is more trivial is that the death is actually a suicide.  The former South Korean President could not longer bear the humiliation of being dragged into the graft and corruption scandal he is into.  Being one of the prime movers of the Korean economy,  he is strongly remembered as a good leader but such scandal has tarnished his name deeply leading to suicide.  I  have known Korea to have high suicidal tendency…. even a former strong man submitted himself to such act.    I just couldn’t imagine how they value their image and moral status — I wish that our politicians get inflicted with such shame.

Such a big busy May… and its June now.

It’s Been a While

I was pretty busy the past weeks in the office and in forming my new baby.  I almost forgot this blog existed.  Of the 3 blogs I have I only got to update Wheesung stuff…

As I mentioned consuming my time other than my work is this new baby of mine called ‘my vanilla print’.  Yup, I finally fulfilled my dream of owning a business that I am passionate about.   It’s mainly printing and personalized items.   A Chinese friend told me its best to open the business on March 25 or April 15 based on Chinese Calendar.  I really wish this business flies 🙂

I am a little sad because I got small time to read on my Korean book.  I slowed down in my daily update of Hangul a Day.  Just too many stuff to look into even on weekends.  I feel so guilty deserting it for nearlly 2 weeks already 😦

My brain is processing too much and the physical state can no longer support the action needed so I ended up tiring my eyes (good excuse) by watching Boys Over Flowers (Korean Hanayori Dango) in the internet every weekend from midnight to early morning.   Four more episodes to go and I can make a write up on this drama and ultimately make a comparison along with the 2 predecessors.

Oh God give me more strength and power to endure things and be able to be more productive and still be a good 암마 at home.

Charice Pempengco

I was too busy updating this personal blog lately as I am trying to keep my Daily Dose of Hangul site updated everyday.  I couldn’t help but share my thoughts on the popularity of  Charice these days.

I was teary eyed watching her awahile ago in a local entertainment show.  I just could feel how sincere she was in saying she is glad that people is now recognizing her talent because for quite a long time she has been trying to catch their attention.

I first saw Charice when she joined the Little Big Star.  It was amazing how a little girl could belt like a full grown lady when she sings.  Honestly, I did not find her really attractive or cute but I know that her talent is priceless.  I was so impressed with her singing that she has been my bet to be the champion on this contest.  Unfortunately, the show is actually looking not just the singing abilities  but the overall ‘star’ potentials of the contestant which she lost against rival Sam Concepcion.   The votes of the televiewers via SMS also pulled her down.

Being a victim of the Korean Hallyu, I am so addicted watching Korean Shows on-line that i was surprised to see Charice performs in a Korean Show called Star King.  I just couldn’t believe how she was so warmly accepted by the Korean viewers.  I guess she has purely gained their respect because of her talent because I know how they can be so discriminating  in relation to looks even to their fellow Koreans.    Moreso, she performed a duet with a member of the very popular boy group in Korea called Super Junior.  She sang a Whole New World along with Kyu Hyun.

The guesting in that Korean show sparked the now flourishing career of Charice.  Videos from You Tube were posted and awesome comments are everywhere.  The rest of the events followed her guesting at Oprah and Ellen De Generes Show which launched her into an International Star.

At this point in time, I am so happy for this little girl whom I betted should have been recognized as the best in the defunct show Little Big Star.   I know it’s unfair to say Sam is not deserving for the award but I think Charice just got that natural talent.  She had few exposures  from the TV station afterwhich, only starred with fellow runner ups in the Lucky Me commercial.

I am a bit disappointed but somehow happy that ABS CBN is at least doing some ‘make-up’ with the exposure that they are giving her right now (not until she became an instant star).   I am disaapointed because it took others to have the talent recognized before she is even given the attention she deserves.  Reminds mo of that bible passage about prophets who are unpopular on their own town… just so like her.

Maybe its a wake up call not just for the people in the entertainment business but likewise for the Filipino viewers.  It’s a shame that she only started to fill-in  nice spots on shows when she got all these US exposures.

But what is more important is I also realized how I can be so proud of my Fellow Filipino,  making it big outside th Philippines.  I have always been proud of Filipinos who are being known worldwide for their great talents and skills.  When some Korean stars (who are in the same league as those of my favorite Korean artists) are taking years to be recognized by a substantial fraction of the American Market, Charice moved in leaps ahead of them.

Charice I may not be a crazy or die hard fan of yours, but at this point in time — you just made me feel TOO PROUD that I am a Filipino.  I earnestly wish you make it big in the US.  Show them that big surprises come in little packaging.   Please continue to be good in what you are doing.. little prayers from people like me will keep you there on top.  Goodluck.

Taeyang Ended 2008 with Hotness

Last night Korea’s MBC aired their 2008 Gayo Daejeon.  No less than Taeyang was one of the performers and I must say one of the best performers.  What a way to wrap up 2008 singing his 3 hits songs 기도 (Kido – Prayer), My Girl and 나만 바라봐 (Naman Parabwa – Look Only at Me)

Taeyang showcased his great dancing skills.  I always think he is the best dancer in Big bang even with the best of his contemporaries.  Movement is so smooth and detailed.   Although the sounds during the MBC Gayo Daejeon seems to be a little weird, Taeyang pulled it through.  It is difficult to sing while executing complex moves.

Prior to this, he also did well in the Piano Battle with DBSK’s Junsu.   The thread over who won the battle is one of the longest.  Well I am just one of those who thinks Taeyang did win the battle may it be just the Piano battle or overall.   I have always liked Taeyang but that doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate if there are better performer than him.

So why do i think he won?

  1. Taeyang played his piece well and sang  Don’t Wanna Try well
  2. Junsu vocals was good, singing You’re My Everything of 98 Degrees almost perfect except for the poor pronunciation of words.  Taeyang wasn’t perfect too in his pronunciation but he was understandable compared to Junsu
  3. Junsu concentrated on the singing, the piano was borderline good going bad.  It was almost staccato.

So if it was purely a piano battle Taeyang wins. Overall i also think Taeyang wins because he made a good rendition of the song while playing the Piano.  A lot of people say Junsu’s voice  better that Taeyang, this is true in terms of hitting the high notes of the song but if it was a competition on singing Junsu will surely be rated low due to his bad pronunciation.  Clearly Junsu’s choice of song is better for a singing competition.  The songs were of different genre so its really hard to compare.

Nevertheless 2008 is Taeyang’s year.  He made a mark and carved his name as a solo performer.  I am actually looking forward his 2nd album this 2009.  태양 파이팅!

Post Christmas Marathon

This post wraps up all the thing that i wanted to say from Christmas eve to date.   This is the first Christmas that my kids asked for something from Santa Klaus.  They made some cute letter to Santa posted it along with their socks.

They even used an old socks hihihi.  Wanting these wishes to be granted really motivated them to behave nicely.

December 24, a few hours until early hours of Dec 25, connecting to Friendster is so intermittent.   If you get lucky enough to log in you will experience the longest page loading ever or will get that cute little message Friendster is experiencing problems right now try refresshing your page or re-logging in later.  Talking about social networking on a Christmas eve Facebook  just made my net greetings perfect.

Having to watch fancam videos of the recently concluded Soul Concert made my holiday net surfing fulfilling.   There were clips posted in You tube featuring  Wheesung’s performance in the concert but a lot has been that of Park Hyoshin.

Hyoshin along with Wheesung and Jeongyeop gave 나만 바라봐 (Naman Parabwa – Look Only at Me) a twist.  It was a bit far from Taeyang’s well choreographed performance but the voices of these 3 great singers made it worth listening too.   For those who heard Hyoshin sing this song , which is not really his genre, it was refreshing.  To me it sounded like bit of a soul ballad rather than R&B.  Wheesung made it sound Soul/R&B, he was also the best dancer of the 3 performer.  It just goes natural the way he mimicked Taeyang’s moves.   Jeongyeop’s part was so right for him.  This was the bridge portion when Taeyangs voice is thin and crsytal clear.  Jeongyeop was perfect for it.  Wanting to see it?  See video below from kkrap22 of You Tube:

나만 바라봐 is a song that marked Taeyang as a successful solo artist.  Of course having these 3 guys sing this song is just too much of an honor for Taeyang who is a lot younger in age and career-wise.  I am just not in agreement that the 3 other guys collaboration is better than the one-man performance of Taeyang.  It was good in a different perspective but people should not undermine how good Taeyang was in singing this song.  Overall, the way he danced and sang the song was just perfect for its original genre –R&B that is.  He sounded like Chris Brown to me, a good singer who has distinct voice that characterize him from the rest.  That is how i view Taeyang.

Christmas passed just like that… despite the financial difficulties, Filipinos in the tradition of gift giving during this season continued with such cheer.  At the end of the day its not really how small or big the gift is but its how you managed to remember the person.   One observation that I had is that, there are lesser kids who went house to house to ask for Christmas presents.   I just hope this tradition won’t die the natural death.

5 Days Before Christmas

It’s been a long while since I last posted.  Days are a bit tight as the day draws nearer to Christmas.  Despite the gloomy economic outlook these days, December still proves to be the happiest month of the year for the Filipinos.

It may not be as exaggerated as it was before when malling is like a full-packed like sardines with people busy shopping still, there still a lot of people shopping but it wasn’t as many as it was before.   What is a big hit this season are the Tiangge and of course the ever famous Divisoria.   Money is hard these days so people are spending wisely.

Rumors say there are a lot of companies that are not holding Christmas Party and yet in my company alone we had 4 already not to mention the private Christmas parties that i attended and will be attending next week.  People still find time to gather and exchange gifts as they are used to.

I just noticed there are lesser lights than the previous years.  Well aside from the Christmas decor being bit expensive,  Christmas lights are additional power consumption therefore translates to bigger electric bill.

It’s 5 days before Christmas… things may have changed yet a lot of people take time to give at this time of the  year.  Gifts may be more practical or lesser yet dear friends and people you have established relationship with remember you — i hope it stays that way.
