Solar Album Shines

It’s been two straight weeks (actually on the 3rd week since i drafted this offline a week ago) that I have been playing Taeyang’s 1st full album entitled ‘Solar’.  I thought I need to listen to the album again and again to know which song will be classified as the ‘IT’ song(s) for me.  When an artist I like or following releases an album, I normally choose the song that I like most.  For some reasons I feel like it’s a must to declare which is my favorite.  More often, the carrier single stands out and when it hit the mainstream quite well the song becomes the best in the album for the fans.  I sometimes feel that this becomes unfair to the other songs in the album, I feel like saying hey there are other songs worth listening in this album and not the carrier single alone.  So I take time listening to the album straight for weeks and get to feel which one will grow on me.

When I heard the audio upload of the carrier single I Need a Girl over at You Tube, I instantly thought the song is quite refreshing for Taeyang.  Since he started working on solo activities he released songs with strong R&B feel…the heavy ones.  나만 바라봐 (Naman Parabwa) and 키도 (Kido) left that impression on me.   Then he released Where U At and Wedding Dress which still have that strong R&B feel.  So to be listening to I Need a Girl was something refreshing to my ear.   To be honest I did not feel strongly about this song until I saw the MV and when he performed it live.  Seeing how Taeyang performed, I just mumbled he did it again.  The same great performance and charisma he showed with the live performances of 나만 바라봐 and Wedding Dress.  With this in mind, I must say Taeyang is really one excellent performer.  I may not share the same views with the other about this song but what is important is how Taeyang’s performances made this song something that I would eventually like.  This is what a good artist is made of, isn’t it?

Another song that gets to be performed once in a while during this album promotion is the 3rd single, Just a Feeling.  It has slightly faster beat than I Need a Girl and this song really got me singing yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah… Honestly I just realized singing along with Taeyang as the song plays. The beat of the song will also surely get you doing some body moves =) I can almost imagine that this song can be good for encore performances.  It’s quite infectious at least on me.

What captured my heart the most was incidentally the last song in the album which is Take It Slow.  I remember 1TYM having a song with the same title.  The music alone is pleasing to my ears and with Taeyang’s vocals, the song left an impression of wanting to listen for more.  It was sung a little soulful and Taeyang’s sweet-sexy voice made it perfect.  There is not much of power vocals but purely passion and feelings in every lyric that came out from Youngbae’s voice.   Taeyang is someone who sounds good when singing with heavy breathing.   I easily get irritated with singers who abuses this singing style but maybe because of the nature of Taeyang’s voice,  every breath that I hear sounds like a piece of his soul.  In one of his interviews, he mentioned that all the songs in the album are his story; I really wonder who might be the subject of this song.  Who is this person that Taeyang is asking to take things slow.  So to me the best song in the album is this song.  Not for any music technicality science, but the mere fact that it touches my heart and emotion as I listen to it.  No wonder I keep on playing this song first whenever I choose Solar Album in my iPod. Its automatic, my finger taps on this song first.

I did not include Where U At and Wedding Dress as part of the songs to choose from, as my most favorite, these songs were released digitally ahead with the other songs and they had their equal special space in my heart and ears ha ha ha.  I think Wedding Dress is one of the most abused songs in my iPOD along with Baby I’m Sorry from the Hot album.

I enjoyed listening to Move as well,  the song gives me that ghetto feel.   The beat is nice and I find my head swaying with the song every time I hear it.  It may not be a carrier single type of song but it’s certainly a good piece of song to listen to.

Songs which may not be my most favorite but they are song you will not skip either on the album are Breakdown and Before You Sleep.  Let me put it this way; I would rather listen to this song than some idol’s carrier single these days.

You’re My seems to be a bit short, but I love listening to it too as I can feel a lot of emotions from Taeyang’s voice.  I just think some of his falsettos in this song may no longer be repeatable live or may not be consistent when performed live.

Overall, I like this album than the first one because I can certainly listen to all songs (including the intro) for start to the end.  I seldom buy CDs of artists may it be Korean or American music because I only buy albums that I can listen to at least half of the songs in the entire track list. So far, Wheesung is the only Korean singer that I have been following consistently with all his albums on my CD shelf.  Now, I think I will be following another artist other than Wheesung and I am certain it’s Taeyang.

Before posting this review I finally received my Solar album the ‘real thing’ last week  *ahem* the deluxe edition from K-POP Mall.  I thought I was going to wait for another week but it came. The album is loaded and since the CD is packaged differently instead of the usual album jacket from a regular CD, you get to have this sort of booklet type album information.   I can’t help but smile on this picture, isn’t he cute and sexy in this shot?

Surely I will be dosing myself with his songs, I read he is having a concert this September in Seoul…Too bad I will be there not until December so maybe I will just be lucky enough to buy a DVD of his concert, I hope YG releases one.

Taeyang…More of Taeyang

OMO Taeyang is really giving me a dose of his killer performance medicine.  I am loving every single performance of him.  I Need a Girl grew on me.  Even if it wasn’t my most favorite song in the album, I love watching him perform this song and for 2 straight weeks his Solar album has been playing on and on my car while driving.

You know when someone is good…love and recognition pours.  I Need a Girl has already took the place of the number 1 spot at MNET Countdown twice in row and now he also hit the same spot at KBS Music Bank.

I am so happy for Taeyang, the guy has really worked hard to come this far.  I am amazed that every performance is as interesting as the first one.  Since he started working on his solo activities he never failed to get my interest with his great performance.  I know he may not have that super great voice but he truly knows how to work on his craft. Overall his live performance and MVs always come out perfect.

I thought of buying his album in time for my December visit in Seoul but after knowing that I maybe left with just the regular packaged album, I grabbed the opportunity of buying the deluxe version over at KPOP Mall.

I can’t wait to get hold of this album, i hope it gets delivered next week.  Thanks to AA Chan blog site, I learned that there are so many nice freebies included in the deluxe packaging of the album.

Taeyang deserves a big congratulations for making this album…way to go — hit number one in Music Core and SBS Inkigayo.  태양씨 화이팅!

ISWAK Korean Version Soon!

It has recently been out that the Korean version of my favorite Taiwanese Drama ‘It Started with a Kiss’ is on he works now.  Group Eight, the production team responsible for Goong (Princess Hours) and Boys Over Flowers, will be doing the Korean version of this Japanase manga ‘Itarazura Na Kiss’.

I am super in-love with the simple, funny and cute plot of this drama.   I think the Joe Cheng and Ariel Lin tandem made this drama a lot more interesting.  They were so funny and cute together.  I must say Ariel Lin did a perfect job with the character.

When Korea announced that they are doing a version of Boys Over Flowers, i knew it will be as exciting as the two other versions.  I was not happy initially on the casting but later on the artists grew on me that I like Lee Minho now but definitely Jerry Yan is still my favorite Domyuji.   For ISWAK Korean version, rumors says Kim Hyun Joong will play the role.  I really love Joe Cheng when he played Zhishu and at this moment I can’t see that character with Hyun Jung.

Kim Hyun Jung as Zhishu?

I know Hyun Jung’s fans will not like me for this, but i wish there would be someone else who has stronger features to act as Zhishu.  I have always associated Hyun Jung with his soft and loving character in BOF.   I was thinking maybe Jang Geun Suk can be that guy but he is already in another drama.  Nevertheless, I am pretty sure ISWAK Korean version would be something worth watching with just the story line, I can imagine the laughter and drama that it will bring me.

Taeyang is Solar

Taeyang made his official comeback to the K-Pop scene last July 01, 2010 with the release of his full length album entitled Solar.  The official MV of the carrier single entitled I Need a Girl has been out for fan’s pleasure.

No doubt, Taeyang did it again.  The whole concept of needing a girl and hating to be single fits him.  I must say the beat of the song is a little light than his usual music and i love it.  It so refreshing to hear Taeyang sing this song.  The MV also shows a different side of him.  He looks a little naughty and playful this time while still showing that great bod (which makes the video Hot!).  Taeyang is definitely cute and hot  in this video — rare combination. I won’t be surprised if ‘I Need a Girl’ becomes a huge success, it has the support of GD and Sandara as his girl interest in the MV.

The first live performance was made thorugh MNET.  He did not just sing one song but THREE!  He had an Intro, Just a Feeling and I Need a Girl.  Not everyone gets to comeback this big on MNET, I remeber Lee Hyori singing at least 2 songs when she came back but she is an MNET artist.  Though I think YG and MNET sort of have a close relationship, good to see Taeyang doing a big comeback on stage this way.

Lucky dancer, I forgot her name but she is always with Taeyag.  During the 나만 바라봐 (Look Only at Me) promotion, the girl gets the best dance routine with Taeyang.  She gets a good spot also in the Wedding Dress dance choreography.  This time she even gets to smack Taeyang.  I am also loving the dance routine, well it’s not much of a big surprise for a good production number from Taeyang and the YG dancers, it’s almost always expected.   Everytime he has a production number there is always a  signature step  this time I find the step sometime on 1:00 cool for Taeyang.   I remember how he danced Wedding Dress with that step where the count seems to be double compared to the beat.  I love that part and Taeyang executed it flawlessly.

I Need a Girl is definitely a feel good song.  Something that will make you groove a little while listening to it.  I like the whole idea of the production number for this carrier song, it’s like an MV on its own.   I will definitely have this album on my collection.  Good job Taeyang!

Taeyang is Coming Back

It’s been a long time since i last had an entry on this blog.  This year at least 3 favorite artists from S.Korea are coming back with their new albums, I heard Big Bang will be launching their new album late this year, Se7en who has long been missing in the Korean music mainstream and my most favorite Big Bang member TAEYANG. woot! woot!

Finally, he is coming out with a full album and I am so excited to get a copy of it.  YG Entertainment officially released a teaser of his comeback… Taeyang is asking if everyone is ready for him  (solar) BUT OF COURSE I AM!

The tracklist of the album is also released.  The two great singles he released is included in the album. Can’t wait for the carrier single to come out.

I suspect on-line reservation for this album will be pretty tight.  My hands are likewise itching to get one.  See you July 1 Taeyang!  I know it’s going to be a big blast.

You’re Beautiful

I regret not watching this drama early on.  I was disinterested to the drama which I felt was just another Coffee Prince.  Having Park Shin Hye as the main lead girl character added to my disinterest.  Little did I know that I will enjoy this fast paced series and will eventually become a favorite.

As I always mentioned, I am a fan of light and feel good dramas so this really got me stuck on my DVD player watching it non stop for almost 2 days.   I love the simple story and how the cast complemented each other.  I suddenly grew interest with Jang Geun Seok whom I think will grow as a well rounded artist having such nice singing voice.

I made a review of the drama and you can check it out on the link under Dramas.

Taeyang Comes Back with Wedding Dress

Just as I thought the live performance of Wedding Dress is just as great as the MV.  Taeyang never fails to impress me with his stage presence — great dancing and singing from Yongbae.

Thanks to alwaystaeyang channel for posting this performance in high definition. I really enjoyed it.  Bet its going to be another 나만 바라봐 (Naman Parabwa – Look Only at Me) in the making.  Taeyang also did an awesome performance of his earlier single released, Where U At.

Just lovin’ Taeyang’s comeback!

Taeyang’s Wedding Dress MV is OUT

Just recently Taeyang released Where U At MV and now another is out just in time for his official comeback today, November 15.   He will make his first live performance of Wedding Dress over at SBS Inkigayo.

I love this MV and the song as well.  Taeyang just keeps on getting better and better.  I love how he look and that mohawk doesn’t bore me at all. The choreography of the song as expected is really good… Taeyang dances so well.  I am now too excited to watch the actual performance.

Credits to alwaystaeyang @ YouTube, the MV they uploaded got subs so its really cool to know the entire meaning and feel of the song.

Nice one Taeyang…surely this will go up to number 1.

Wheesung Is Back and So is Taeyang

Although a little earlier than Taeyang, Wheesung is back in the Korean Music scene with his 6th full album Vocolate.  Another album worth every single won of its price.   The album features 주르륵 (Chureureuk – Trickling) as its carrier single.

It  was really good to see Wheesung comes back in his polished and stylish look.  I just love the drama of the orchestra in the later part of the performance.  Not my 1st favorite amongst the 12 songs but this song started to grew on me.

What makes this October even more special is the come back of another Korean artist that I like…Taeyang!  He is performing his digital single Where U At which will also form part of his 2nd album.

Youngbae exudes hotness and great performance as expected. Very polished dancing while singing. Love it!

Ma Girl by Taeyang Live

Finally a clear video of the controversial Ma Girl performance of Taeyang in his Hot concert last year.  For the longest time this cannot be seen in you tube as the DVD of the concert has just started sales in the market.  Only fancams were available.

Still the hottest among Big Bang in my opinion hahaha.  Credits to cizzlewentzzz for the video in You Tube.
